Napa's Ladera Vineyards Announces Two Insider Harvest Tours

February 18, 2009 – Even though most people are more likely to be thinking about shoveling the driveway than scheduling late summer travel, harvest remains the most popular time to visit Napa Valley, so get your head out of the snow and start planning now to make the most of your wine country visit.
The Stotesbery family invites guests to join them high above the valley floor to celebrate harvest in two unique ways at Ladera’s historic Howell Mountain property.
TWILIGHT TOURS
Still love Halloween, but feeling a little old for conventional trick-or-treating? Take a Halloween-inspired trip to Ladera Vineyards for a Twilight Ghost Tour at its historic “ghost winery.” Available August through October by appointment only, Ladera’s Twilight Tours include a lantern-led tour of the winery and a tasting of some of the best cabs in the Napa Valley.
Tours will start with Ladera’s 2008 Sauvignon Blanc, which is paired with an assortment of cheese and chocolate to set the mood. You’ll have your own personal lantern to help guide you while you meander through Ladera’s different levels of the gravity flow winery. As the sun sets, you will be escorted through the winery’s creaky doors and into the vast 18,000 square feet of caves, finally emerging to see the moonlit winery from the outside. Complete your tour with a tasting of Ladera’s limited production 2005 Syrah and 2007 Malbec, as well as barrel samples of their signature 2008 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon.

“SHARE THE CRUSH” AT LADERA
Beginning in September and continuing through October, the Stotesbery family welcomes guests to join them atop Howell Mountain to celebrate crush at Ladera Vineyards. The harvest team will lead guests through an insider tour of harvest at Ladera’s pre-Prohibition gravity flow “ghost winery.” From handpicking fruit in the vineyards to sorting berries to tasting through tank samples of Ladera’s signature Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon at various levels of fermentation, this interactive and informative tour will guide guests through every stage of wine from the vine to the bottle. Participants will quickly learn the tricks of the trade and find out what it truly takes to be a winemaker for a day.

After the fruit has been crushed and their hard work is complete guests are invited to relax and soak up the sun in Ladera’s expansive gardens while savoring a gourmet picnic lunch and enjoying a line up of Ladera’s top wines.
Ladera’s harvest tours are available September through October by appointment only. All tours will be held from 10:00am-2:00pm. Harvest tours start at $1,200 for groups of four to six people which include a hands-on tour and picnic lunch paired with Ladera wines. Comfortable clothes and shoes that can get dirty are recommended.
